The focus of the multicore center of excellence at IIIT-H is to understand
the abilities of the modern day multicore architectures and deploy them to
solve fundamental problems.

Several courses in the area of high performance computing and multicore
architectures are currently being offered.
Projects are currently running in various domains such as computational
geometry, AI, robotics, and image processing. A list of projects is:
- Computational geometry algorithms on the Cell: The scope of the
current project is to arrive at efficient ways to compute the convex hull
of a point set on the Cell. This will be extended for other
fundamental CG algorithms.
- A framework for genetic algorithms: Genetic algorithms are a popular
optimization algorithms for engineering problems and are in use over
several decades. The aim of this project is to come up with a library that
can cater to implementors of genetic algorithms on the Cell platform.
There is no such library in the parallel domain. The comparable product is
a similar library from MIT for sequential computaiton.
- Community detection in social networks: Social networks have emerged as
a tool to explain several phenomenon in engineering and nature. The aim of
this project is to identify and implement community detection algorithms
on the Cell platform.
- Canny edge detection on the Cell, Face detection
- alpha,beta search tree: A very useful technique for AI programs.
